Three games, three wins

It has been a chaotic pre-season with injuries and many changes. The fact that until the last week before the beginning of the season we did not have one single practice with the complete team scared me a little bit. Yes, because if you cannot practice good, usually, you cannot play good.

However, coach Nenad and his assistant Jovica, did the best possible job and prepared us for the beginning of the 2019-2020 season. They established a defensive concept and defined our offense perfectly.

Kangaroos – Bad Aibling 80:72

The first game of the season is always hard. Everybody is nervous and you do not know what to expect. Bad Aibling’s players are all small and quick and it has been really hard playing against them. Bradaric and the Nimphius twins made a lot of pressure on us guards and we had some difficulties in the 3rd quarter. With some experience, we took the game home and won in front of our fans. Remarkable for sure our Captain’s performance: Dominic Veney shined with 17 points 12 rebounds and 7 assists.

Kangaroos – JENA II 107:102 (88:88) OT

For sure, the craziest game of this season. We had probably the best first quarter possible. Shooting 80% from the three-point line and going up 19 points. We relaxed and thought we can easily take home the win, but Jena had other plans. They started to fight and play like crazy. Until reaching the overtime with a three-pointer with a foul 5 seconds to go. Unfortunately, for Jena, this was my day, and I had my best scoring performance since I am playing in Germany. 39 points with 13/20 FG and 8/11 threes. Thanks also to Chuck’s 27 points, Jonas Sauer’s transition points (he reminds me of a young Goran Dragic in the fast breaks, no joke) and the whole team-effort, we won the game, remaining unbeaten.

Herzogenaurach – Kangaroos 72-73

It has never been easy playing in Herzogenaurach. We knew that. The gym is old, cold and dirty. Plus, we could not count on Max Uhlich (Back problems) and Nino Tomic (Temperature) just before the game. However, we were always leading except of few minutes in the last quarter. Some strange calls from the referees did not help us, but this time we got a big help from our bench. Lewis, Fiebich, Ricardo and Wesley gave us the power to come back and win the game. Remarkable also the performance of Nedim, unstoppable under the basket. My 8 points and 7 assist were just enough for the win, this time.

On Saturday 12.10.2019 at 19.30 we are playing at home against the BC Hellenen Munich. Probably the hardest test for us this time. Against my friend Alek Pikl it will be also a Slovenian derby for me.
